You Can Make a Difference!

More than 19,000 adults in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties read below a third grade level. When individuals learn to read, write, do basic math and use computers, they are more likely to lift themselves out of poverty, contribute to lower health care costs, and find and keep sustainable employment. Our mission is building literacy skills to empower adults and improve lives.

Your tax-deductible gift purchases student and tutor materials, tutor training supplies, technology supplies, and tutoring space so that Craven Literacy Council can improve adult literacy by providing free, individualized instructional services to adults in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.

Ways You Can Help

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends is a select group of major donors pledging $1,000 or more annually. These individuals and organizations donate so that together we can stop the cycle of low literacy in our community. The significant financial commitments from Circle of Friends donors demostrate how much they value literacy and support our vision that all individuals will have the skills to achieve their full potential. Please contact our Executive Director if you would like to join our Circle of Friends.

Event Sponsorships and In-Kind Donations

Fundraising events provide financial support for us and also serve to build awareness of our organization. Corporate sponsorships and in-kind donations of items and services we would otherwise pay for are always appreciated. Current events are the Daddy-Daughter Sweetheart Ball and our Trivia Night and Silent Auction, as well as 2 mailings (Stay at Home Tea and Gift of Literacy). Annual Pledge Giving

Donate automatically through PayPal. Give to one of our semi-annual appeals, or select the time and amount that works for you. Enjoy the satisfaction of supporting us throughout the year without the hassle of writing individual checks. A one-time, monthly or annual gift helps to keep us on track financially and supports the day-to-day work of our staff, trainers, tutors and volunteers. With your gift you will play a vital role in changing a person's life.

Tribute and Memorial Gifts

Do you know a teacher or a person who loves to read? A wonderful way to mark their birthday, anniversary, retirement or other milestone occasion is to make a donation in their name. A memorial gift is a thoughtful way to honor a recently deceased friend or relative.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many companies match employee gifts to non-profits. This enables your donation to double or, at times, triple. Check with your company to see if they offer this program.

Planned Giving

Help Craven Literacy Council plan for the future by setting up a bequest, trust or annuity or include us in your will or estate plan. Designate monies from life insurance or your private foundation to benefit CLC. You protect your current assets while providing needed funds for the future at CLC.

3rd Party Fundraisers

Plan and hold an event that benefits Craven Literacy Council. Contact our office with your idea and let's brainstorm how to make it happen. No event is too small.
